Doctor's P.R. Agency Launches T.V. and Online Public Relations
Campaign For Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™
When dentist, educator and inventor Dr. John Chao was ready to introduce his
breakthrough minimally invasive treatment for receding gums to the world, he turned to
Doctor’s P.R. to conceive and execute a unique public relations and marketing
campaign. Dr. Chao had multiple goals for the success of his invention, the Chao
Pinhole Surgical Technique™, (PST) which can reverse gum recession without cutting,
sutures or painful gum grafting surgery. These goals are to drive public awareness of
the benefits of PST, to attract new patients to his own practice, to achieve national
media exposure for PST and to conduct seminars to teach and certify dental
professionals to perform this revolutionary alternative to conventional gum grafting.
Realizing that an easy to understand depiction of the new technique was critical for use
in patient consultations and to support media exposure Gary Grasso, the director of
Doctor’s P.R. recommended that a custom animation be designed and produced to
illustrate how the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique is done. After supervising
production of the new animation Doctor’s P.R. launched a targeted media relations
campaign, quickly securing a syndicated T.V. news story which was broadcast on local
news programs in 25 cities across the U.S. including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago,
Philadelphia and San Francisco. The public relations launch was well on its way within
the first month.
Drawing on our experience in medical and dental branding, Doctor's P.R. conceived
two new brand names for the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique™ to more clearly
represent the benefits of the procedure to the general public. These names, Chao
Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™ and the Lunchtime Gum Lift™ were adopted and are
used interchangeably with Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique™ in consumer and
professional press materials, publicity and media exposure. Over the next two months,
several additional television news stories featuring Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™
were placed by Doctor’s P.R.
Phase two of the pinhole public relations campaign was initiated by Dr. Chao to
promote seminars to train dental professionals from around the world in the new
technique. Doctor’s P.R. assisted with press releases, marketing materials and
marketing support as the first seminar was held in August 2013. Doctor’s P.R. secured
another T.V. placement for Dr. Chao on the Dr. Steve Show in New York in time to be
shown to the attendees at Dr. Chao’s sold-out second training course in September
During this time Doctor’s P.R. secured a major article which ran in six newspapers in
Southern California and followed up with placement of a “mat release” article,
distributed through numerous newspapers across the country. In November 2013,
Doctor’s P.R placed another T.V. news story featuring Dr. Chao, on NBC 4 News in Los
Dr. Chao continued to promote and refine the monthly dental training seminars. In
December 2013, Doctor’s P.R. secured a feature story for Chao Pinhole Gum
Rejuvenation™ on the award-winning national T.V. show “The Doctors.” Broadcast on
January 21, 2014, “The Doctors” story shows Dr. Chao treating a woman with ten gum
recessions in just 56 minutes. The patient revealed her new smile for the show’s live
audience as Dr. Chao narrated an animation of the procedure.
In a remarkably short time, Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™ has become
